What Is CEREC®?
CEREC® (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) was created by Sirona Dental Systems, a leading manufacturer of CAD/CAM systems specifically designed for dental application. The CEREC® system consists of a digital camera which creates images of the tooth to receive the new crown, imaging software that resolves the camera images into a 3-D model of the tooth which is used to design the new crown, and a precision milling machine which is used to sculpt the new crown from ceramic porcelain. Along with custom-fitted dental crowns, the CEREC® system can also be used to create custom-fitted porcelain veneers, inlays, and onlays for patients of all ages.
